Ermias Asghedom, better known by his stage name Nipsey Hussle. Is a West Coast rapper from Los Angeles, California. Nipsey’s first recorded mixtape, was Slauson Boy Volume 1, and soon became the name of his own record label. In 2008 Nipsey released two mixtapes, Bullets Ain’t Got No Name, Vol. 1 and Vol. 2, before signing with Epic Records. He also released a third mixtape, Bullets Ain’t Got No Name, Vol. 3. He appeared with Drake on the song “Killer” and on the song “Upside Down” on Snoop Dogg‘s album Malice n Wonderland. A first studio album, South Central State of Mind, was expected in the summer of 2009 but was never released; it has been postponed indefinitely. The mixtape’s theme is a “declaration of independence from the confines of the traditional music biz that forced him to endure over two years worth of delayed celebration for the still-pending release of his formal debut.” In 2010 he appeared on the song “We Are the World 25 for Haiti“. He was chosen as one of XXL Magazine’s “Annual Freshman Top Ten”, a selection of ten up-and-coming artists as “Most Determined”. And continues to have success with the release of his new single “Feelin Myself” feat. Lloyd. The first single off The Marathon mixtape is “Keys to the City” produced By E.N.G. & Djay Cas. Watch the video below after the jump…
The Marathon was released in December 2010. The mixtape was released by All Money In Records. The Lyle Wayne directed above video consists of exclusive live performance footage of the Los Angeles rapper at a local nightclub venue, with a sexy Latina model dancing and lip-synching to the hook in separate footage. The first single from the album is “Keys to the City”. The official video was released for that song in June 2011 on Vimeo and was directed by Dan “The Man” Melamid, who also directed the video for Nipsey Hussle’s 2009 single, “Hussle In The House”.
On the first leak off the mixtape, “Mr. Untouchable,” Nipsey raps a bar that says: “High ’til we die, so it’s muthafucc a Detox” which Nipsey in his VIBE interview stated it was not a diss line to West Coast rapper and producer Dr. Dre and his third studio album Detox. In an interview, Nipsey maintained that the diss was “…nothin’ personal. I ain’t never really reached out to Dre, or Dre ain’t never really reached out to me, so it ain’t a shot against him, it’s just, my focus is on what I’m doing now.” Don’t worry Nipsey just keep grinding and getting your hustle on. I’m sure you’ve made a lot of connections and will get to the big time soon enough…
