Before this song was released, 2 Chainz confirmed his appearance on Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded. On March 20, 2012; Minaj posted on Twitter that “Beez in the Trap” is set to premiere on Power 105.1’s DJ Clue’s radio show at 7:00 pm, however, it ended up being premiered by Hot 97‘s DJ Flex instead. It later made its way online shortly thereafter. “Beez in the Trap” received generally positive reviews from music critics, with several commenting positively on Minaj’s performance. Although he felt that the song “lack[ed] real substance,” XXL magazine praised “Beez in the Trap,” calling it a “memorable moment” of Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, and also complimented Minaj’s “unique energy and distinct personality” displayed in the song. The song awarded her with her second Best New Track accolade (the first being Super Bass). Pitchfork Media described “Beez in the Trap” as a “effortless, pinging schoolyard taunt,” and, in a separate review of the song for the same publication, Carrie Battan complimented Minaj’s “daunting swagger,” writing that she “hits a spot sweet enough to render every single gripe obsolete for four and a half minutes.” Check out the official Music video below after the jump…

Video Synopsis: Minaj filmed the official music video for Beez in the Trap on March 18, 2012 in Miami, Florida. It was directed by Benny Boom. On March 29, 2012; Minaj talked about her upcoming videos in an interview with MTV, she said that the Starships and “Beez in the Trap” videos will be released in April 2012. “Beez in the Trap” premiered on VEVO on April 6, 2012. Birdman, Slim Thug, and Safaree Samuels make cameo appearances. The video starts with opening credits, then a visual is made of Nicki Minaj, in a blond wig, behind barb-wire to feed off an image ‘she’s in the trap’. The music begins and the scene moves to a strip club, where Minaj is spotted flirting with two woman on her right and left. She, then, goes on and deliberately flashes the words “Beez” and “Trap” of gold, almost like brass knuckles. One minute into the video, guest star, 2 Chainz, performs his verse, while Minaj sexually dances next to him. His verse closes with him blowing a cloud of smoke into the camera. The words “Beez” and “Trap” are sighted again, but around Minaj’s neck now, thereafter, comes Minaj playing through her hair. Dancers and party-goers continue dancing throughout the hook, while footage of Minaj, 2 Chainz, Safaree, and Young Money executives, Birdman and Slim Thug, stroll by. Minaj, then, continues to play through her hair and makes a “grab” at a dancers’ behind, ending the hook. Nicki Minaj continues, with hype man, Safaree, behind her, as she dances in a green bikini and wig, with the words “Beez” and “Trap” still around her neck. After her verse is finish, the center of attention turns to the confetti, however, was going throughout the entire video. Birdman is seen again, in a YMCMB hat, and Minaj’s golden “brass knuckles” as well. The end of the video shows guest star, 2 Chainz dancing behind Minaj, then coming to a final stop and posing back-to-back with each other.

The Guardian, felt “Beez in the Trap” showed Minaj’s awareness of her “divided fanbase,” noting that whilst Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded contained songs that were “precision-tooled for the modern pop environment”, “Beez in the Trap” places more emphasis on Minaj’s rapping ability, writing that the song “throw[s] a bone to the listeners who just want to hear her rap.” MTV News commended the performance of 2 Chainz, calling his verse in the song “charismatic,” and went on to write that he “doesn’t compromise a thing spitting alongside the multi-platinum rapper.” The song was recorded at Conway Studios in Los Angeles, California.

NY Daily News reports earlier in the day on Saturday, April 14, Nicki Minaj accused fan site NickiDaily.com of leaking songs from her new album “Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded” online, and quickly blocked it from her Twitter account. Shortly afterward, however, the singer decided to go one step further and shut down her page entirely. Nicki Daily is also currently shut down, but the site traffic is getting redirected to another fan site called Nicki’s World. Another possible factor in the rapper’s decision to ditch the social media site is Minaj’s recent claims that she “wanted to kill” her father for his abusive ways growing up. The singer received some major lashback for her harsh comments, some of which she called “very mean.” Do you think that Nicki overreacted by her deleting her twitter account? Song leaks have happened to many artists and they don’t freak out and shut their accounts down. What do you all think about this? Share your thoughts and opinions about this below…
