Sochitta Sal, better known by her interesting stage name Honey Cocaine, is an up and coming Cambodian rapper originally from Toronto, Canada. Honey Cocaine is signed to Tyga’s independent label Last Kings. Honey recently revealed that she started writing down poetry at a very young age and says she chose the “rap lane” around the age of 7 or 8. By the age of 10 or 11, she says she was already recording her own music. Honey’s the first artist to be signed to Tyga’s new label. Honey first received national recognition with her debut collaboration on “Heisman“, featuring Tyga. Honey is one of the up-to-date female rappers with serious flow that is getting better over time and will probably blow up with in the next few years. Honey’s T.O. Gold is the second track off of her recently dropped mixtape titled “90′s Gold”, which was hosted by DJ Ill Will out in Los Angeles, California. This song has a brand new accompanying music video that really delivers some awesome visuals to compliment the lyrics behind Honey. As the title “90′s Gold” suggests and as she has previously discussed in a few interviews, Honey’s taken some of the old school 90′s rap classics and put her own creative spin on them. She says we’re going to be surprised to see what she does with those classics that we love. Check out Honey’s “T.O. Gold” video, the second track off of her “90′s Gold” mixtape…
The short official music video above spits a verse over Notorious B.I.G’s classic “Ten Crack Commandments.” The video was shot in the streets of her hometown back in Toronto. The video was Directed by Darren “D-Lo” Lopes. The track itself was Mixed and Mastered down by Sunny Diamonds. Recently, Hot New Hip Hop interviewed her and asked about hooking up with the YMCMB rapper Tyga. Honey says that Tyga contacted her after seeing one of her YouTube videos that she did: “He reached out to me through YouTube, ’cause I used to do little videos of me spitting and shit. And, I dunno, I did a remix of “Rack City” and he seen it I guess, and he reached out to me through Twitter. And yeah, I was kinda surprised, but I felt it coming. I kinda felt, like, a break coming for me. ‘Cause I’d been working really hard, in the studio all day, skipping school.” Honey also talked about her new mixtape 90′s Gold, which was released back in July 2012, she explained how it came about. She said, “What inspired me to do that was just, when I was in Europe, I would hear old songs in the club. And I was just like, yo, this is music I grew up with and listen too and everyone’s gunna love it, ’cause it’s familiar to everyone.”
She also talked about getting shot in the arm while leaving the Sokol Auditorium in Omaha, Nebraska back in March 2012 during The Careless World Tour. Tyga’s concert ended with an argument with some of the audience members, who threw garbage on stage. After Tyga retreated the scene and went back to his tour bus, gunshots were fired at the vehicle as it sped off into the night. Two patrons attending were also injured during the altercation. Honey later tweeted about getting struck with a bullet that night: “What happened, happened.. God loves me and he loves you,” she wrote, “Got shot and I’m not dead. #LoveLifeAndGod.”
Back last month Honey spent time answering some fan mail she had received via her VLog. she expressed her gratitude and humility that she feels when people tell her that they look up to her. She says it makes her feel good to know that she’s able to fill that role for people when she never had that kind of backing for herself. A few days ago Honey spoke with Batt Tube Live and explained her name saying its a metaphor for sweet and addicting. She also revealed that she was already working on her next project titled “Get Educated.” Honey previously expressed on twitter that she’s a versatile lyricist and that “shwag shit” wasn’t all that she was good at doing. On this mixtape in the works, she’s setting out to educate her fans on who Honey Cocaine is with her lyrics. A few months back Honey also paid homage to Biggie Smalls classic track “Who Shot Ya” in her version “Who Shot Me” featuring Tyga, she recounts the day she was shot while on tour with Tyga. While out promoting and touring in London with her mentor, she made an appearance on Tim Westwood’s popular radio show. While there she spit a real quick fuck your feelings type freestyle.
Back in January 2012, one of the hottest trends in online videos known today was started by YouTubers who created “Shit Girls Say.” This inspired Honey to create her own video called “Shit Asian Girls Say,” which she keeps it pretty real by dropping her version and acting out an entire skit playing her mother. Some of the interesting topics she covers include school, discipline, food and profanity. According to Honey she’s pretty certain that some of you readers out there have heard one of these lines from your parents before. Besides that Honey is young and still working her life out. She’s learning the ropes quick and I can see she has some influences like Nicki Minaj in her life. Do you think that her rhymes are good? Share your thoughts below…
