Hot Music Video – Extremely Blessed & G.O.O.D. Morning – 2 Chainz ft. Terius Nash (The Dream)

Based on a T.R.U. Story is the debut studio album by Atlanta rapper Tauheed Epps better known by his stage name 2 Chainz, released through Def Jam Recordings via Universal Music Group back during August 2012. The album features several guest appearances from fellow rappers Lil Wayne, Drake, Kanye West, Nicki Minaj and Playaz Circle cohort Dolla Boy along with singer-songwriters, producers The-Dream, Mike Posner, The Weeknd and Chris Brown. The album’s unique production was handled by Brick Squad Monopoly‘s Southside, Mike WiLL Made It, Sonny Digital, Kanye West, Hit-Boy, Drumma Boy, DJ Mustard, Mr. Bangladesh and DJ Spinz, among many others. A little background on the artist shows 2 Chainz began releasing solo material in 2007, while still in Playaz Circle with Dolla Boy, releasing a mixtape that year titled Me Against the World!, during the time, under his former stage name Tity Boi. It wasn’t until early 2011, when he changed his moniker to 2 Chainz, as he perceived it to be more “family friendly,” that his career began to take off and he started getting more songs with more well known featured artists within the industry. “This isn’t an image for me,” says 2 Chainz, as he talks about his highly stylized couture type profile. He reveals saying back, “in ’07 I was saying, ‘Walk into the Gucci store, honey, I’m home.’ That’s just who I am. I just feel like fashion has been a part of my artistic expression as well as my wordplay. I’m just enjoying life. I’m getting people to actually smile when they listen to my music.” Check out his new video for Extremely Blessed featuring The Dream after the jump…

Video Synopsis: Neither artist appears in the Extremely Blessed music video, which documents the life of a young woman dealing with her personal life. By day, she goes to college to work on her degree and takes care of her daughter. But by night, she humbles herself and  works at a local strip club, so she can support her family because her baby daddy is not around to help support her. As is the case for thousands of single moms around the world who are in the same situation. The video leaves us with this following message: “Sometimes we get through adversity only by imagining what the world might be like if our dreams should ever come true.”

Video Synopsis: Dropping a solo version of a popular song “The Morning,” which originally first appeared on the G.O.O.D. Music compilation Cruel Summer. In the black and white video for 2 Chainz version of the song we see him make his way through Paris, France while spending lots of bread at high-end designer stores like Louis Vuitton and Versace while being photographed by the paparazzi who plague the world waiting for that money making photo-op. He hits the stage to perform during his “B.O.A.T.S.” tour and is recognized by a newlywed couple at the hotel.

Back in August 2012, the Grammy nominated artist spoke with Billboard about his album and his past. Not that kick-starting his solo career in the industry was a simple process. “I almost wanted to stop rapping,” 2 Chainz says, reflecting on a career that dates back to the late ’90s and includes years spent as the fourth man on the crowded roster of Ludacris’ Def Jam imprint, Disturbing Tha Peace. He reveals that, “There was no one saying, ‘Oh, you are going to blow up!’ Because I was one of the cats that was always in the studio. People would say, ‘Man, what the hell is he doing in there?’ Now everyone gets to see what all the long nights and short days was about.” As 2 Chainz knows that’s what making it in the industry is work.

The album’s lead single, No Lie premiered back in May 2012. The song features guest vocals from Canadian recording artist Drake and was produced by Mike Will. The music video  was directed by Director X and released June 2012. The album’s second single, Birthday Song featuring rapper Kanye West, was released back in July 2012. The album’s third single I’m Different, was released in November 2012 and was produced by DJ Mustard and Mike Free. Another song that is eighth on the album is called “I Luv Dem Strippers” featuring rapper Nicki Minaj (seen above).

Based on A T.R.U. Story has sold 417,000 copies as of December 2012. While the album received mixed reviews, it was also nominated for Best Rap Album for the 55th Grammy Awards. 2 Chainz talked about his recent Grammy nomination humbly saying, “I jus wanna use this opportunity to thank GOD for everything that has taken place in my life good and bad. 1st album 1st grammy nomination.”

Diplo recently took to his official Twitter account on December 4, to reveal that he has recorded a collaboration with 2 Chainz and South Korean rapper PSY. He wrote the following, “no lie i just finished something with @psy_oppa and @2chainz the mayan calendar predicted this .” say what? I wonder what they have got in store. Something crazy like I am pretty sure. Will the world end with this new track? It will probably be released around December 21, the way he is talking.
