The wild and crazy tales of a “on the run” fugitive and eccentric millionaire named John McAfee are something out of a comic book. Since this crazy story and life of McAfee went viral. The Anti-virus software founder has been answering questions from many reporters since this all started. McAfee arrived back in the U.S. on Wednesday, December 12, after being deported from Guatemala, where he had sought refuge to evade police questioning in the alleged killing of his neighbor Gregory Faull back in neighboring Belize. On December 3, McAfee posted on his blog saying he had not been arrested, he said “I am currently safe and in the company of two intrepid journalist from Vice Magazine, and, of course, Sam. We are not in Belize, but not quite out of the woods yet.” At that time McAfee said he would return to Belize and that the Vice story will make everything clear. Later that day in the photo that was posted along with a story announcing that they were shadowing McAfee We Are with John McAfee Right Now, Suckers.” Vice screws up and leaves meta data in the image that allows it to be pinpointed to a location in Guatemala that McAfee was close to. In another deleted blog post McAfee writes a blurb from an undisclosed location. He said, “I openly apologize to Vice Magazine for manipulating their recently published photo… I, for my own safety, manipulated the xif data on the image taken from my cellphone, and created a fake emrgency so that the urgency of movement led, as I knew it would, to the hasty posting on their website. I felt that our tenuous situation demanded action, and that was the action that I chose.” Two days later is when the video below was posted…

As seen in the video above from December 4, McAfee hired Telesforo Guerra, the former attorney general of Guatemala, as his lawyer. Guerra told AFP that he met with McAfee at a Guatemala City hotel. Later that afternoon, John and his lawyer held a press meeting during which he announced that he had documentation proving “the intense corruption at all levels of the Belizean government.” On the ride over to the official press meeting, John stated on the record that Sam Vanegas, his girlfriend, was with him in her bedroom on John’s property on the night of the murder of his neighbor and US citizen Greg Faull. He said that several other witnesses could corroborate his whereabouts that evening. The story only got stranger from this point.

McAffee also said that he planned to settle down in Guatemala, “I have a passport. I am in no trouble with the U.S. I can return any time I like. I have been back to America many times since I have been in Belize. I have no interest of going this month or next but … I can come and go freely to America any time I want. I am not concerned because I have not been charged with a crime, so there is no basis for extradition. No one has blamed me for the murder. I have not been charged, I am not a suspect … They merely want to question me.”

In response to McAffee, a spokesman for the Belizean police said, “He’s really gone out of his way to make the country look bad, and we just believe he should, if he’s innocent as he’s saying he is, he should bring in his lawyer, and let’s get to the bottom of this and say what he needs to say and let’s move on.”

On December 5, McAfee was picked was picked up by the Guatemala special police task force for questioning about his illegal entry into the country. His lawyer, Mr. Guerra, accompanied him to Emigrason Albergue located in Guatemala City and he was attempting to get John out before his press conference the following day.

On December 6, McAfee suffers chest pains overnight and is hospitalized briefly after being denied political asylum in Guatemala and his lawyers said they were making a last-ditch effort to keep him from being flown back to Belize for questioning. McAfee didn’t believe he had a heart attack and a doctor also agree that his heart rhythm and blood pressure were normal and he only appeared to be suffering from high stress. He was moved to a police-run hospital after Guatemalan authorities said McAfee’s request for asylum had been denied and they did not explain why. He was released from the hospital and taken back to the detention center. Shortly after the decision to deny him asylum was announced, McAfee issued a plea on his blog for the public to petition Guatemalan President Otto Perez Molina to let him stay. But his request was denied.

On December 8, McAfee reveals that wanted to return to the United States. In a phone call to Reuters from the immigration facility where he was being held for illegally crossing the border in to Guatemala with his 20-year-old girlfriend. He told Reuters the following, “My goal is to get back to America as soon as possible. I wish I could just pack my bags and go to Miami. I don’t think I fully understood the political situation. I’m an embarrassment to the Guatemalan government and I’m jeopardizing their relationship with Belize.” That’s not cool move McAfee…

On December 10, just a couple of days later a Montreal, Canada based Impact Future Media says it has secured the exclusive IP rights to McAfee’s personal life story. Brian Fitzgerald, who also co-founded the company with CEO Francois Garcia said, “[McAfee] trusts that we will honor his life story in an honest and truthful manner.” The TV producer is looking for investors and production partners for the project, tentatively titled Running in the Background: The True Story of John McAfee. Ironically, Impact Future Media has ties to McAfee through Cartoon Monkey Studio founder Chad Essley, whom it already represents. The next day McAfee terminates his relationship with Vice Magazine as posted in his blog. Which Vice Magazine also posted an official statement in response to McAfee.

On December 12, after weeks on the run and days in immigration detention, McAfee arrives in Miami, where he’s staying at the Beacon Hotel. McAfee tells CNN he and his young girlfriend were separated when immigration authorities expelled him from Guatemala. “I was whisked out of prison,” McAfee told CNN affiliate WSVN in front of his South Beach hotel. “I was forcibly separated from Samantha, and now here I am.” Later that day Police escorted McAfee to an airport in Guatemala City after immigration authorities expelled him. “He opted to return to his country of origin,” said attorney Guerra, who has represented McAfee since he arrived in Guatemala last week. McAfee said, “I’m happy to be going home. I’ve been running through jungles and rivers and oceans and I think I need to rest for a while. And I’ve been in jail for seven days. I’m just going to hang in Miami for a while. I like Miami. There is a great sushi place there and I really like sushi.”

John McAfee - CNBC - Squwak Box Interview - December 14 2012

The video posted here from this mornings interview of John McAfee today on CNBC’s “Squawk Boxwith Robert Frank. The interview was more than expected as McAfee revealed some answers to questions that were asked to him. McAfee insists he “had nothing to do” with the killing of his neighbor in Belize. “I’m certainly not going to turn myself in to the authorities [there], who’ve been trying to lay hands on me,” he told Frank. “I had nothing to do with the murder of Gregory Faull… I spoke 50 words to that man… I did not have a history with him.”

He added, “He complained about my dogs. But every neighbor complained about my dogs. I complained about my dogs. They kept me awake, too. I was trying to fix the problem.” Currently McAfee is only a “person of interest” and in regards to the charges against him, he says “I will not be charged with this.”

McAfee also discussed stories of his past heart attack hoaxes he has pulled in the past, “I do love hoaxes and I love elaborate hoaxes. But not the ones that involve my detention in a Guatemalan jail, Shooting of my dogs, the harm to people.” When McAfee was asked about his drug use and his “Bath Salts/Bluelight Hoax” he pulled in the past. He replied, “Well I did a hoax on bath salts once, absolutely. Bath salts are used by people that don’t have a lot of money that make them want to eat people’s faces.” He added, “You know, if I decided to start using drugs again, I have the resources to use good drugs.”

He even accused Belize and neighboring countries of torture, adding that he refuses to associate with anybody who drinks alcohol. He also says that he has about 5 million dollars left and the Belizean government will most likely take possession of all of his assets. “Making money is easy. It is. The difficult thing in life is not making it, it’s keeping it. Any idiot can make money. Keeping money, very few can do.”

What do you think about McAfee’s story? Do you believe him? Do you think that he should turn himself in or keep blabbing to the media? Share your thoughts below…

Ah we can always count on bizarre software mogul, John Mcafee, to provide an entertaining story. The anti-virus software pioneer fled Belize after he was asked to come in for questioning on the murder of his neighbor. McAfee resurfaced in Guatemala earlier this week and was quickly detained. xD
