On January 21, 2013, R&B songstress Beyonce Knowles performed the American national anthem at President Barack Obama‘s second inauguration, held at the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C.. While her performance received a positive response from critics and celebrities. Billboard Magazine wrote “she delivered a stunningly inspired version of ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’”, while a reviewer for the New York Post praised Knowles for “a flawless rendition”. British journalist and television host Piers Morgan used his personal Twitter account to write, “And THAT’S why she’s the No1 performer in world music….. incredible!.” Shortly after the performance, Master Sgt. Kristin DuBois of the US Marine Band reportedly told some news outlets, including CNN and The New York Times, that Beyonce’s performance was pre-recorded and she lip-synced the entire track. She later clarified her statement and removed the implication of lip-syncing because she was possibly threatened with a huge lawsuit. According to Marine Corps media officer Eric Flanagan, stated the following, “However, there was no opportunity for Ms. Knowles-Carter to rehearse with the Marine Band before the Inauguration so it was determined that a live performance by the band was ill-advised for such a high-profile event.” After the lip-synced performance haters went on a rampage and disappointment was seen all over Twitter with tweets of disgust from fans that Beyonce would do something so disrespectful. » Read more..
